Mar 27, 2023 Events & News

A while ago I was having a conversation with another senior citizen and I was struck by her comment Well, what do I know?” I don’t even recall what the topic was, but that response has continued to give me pause.

Do we fully appreciate the value of our community’s elders and their earned wisdom? After all, they have lived through a lifetime of experiences, both successes and defeats, that many have yet to go through.

If one is willing to listen to their stories and to appreciate the wisdom they have gathered through those experiences, there is rich knowledge for us to gain.

“We all have much to learn from listening to our elders. When they speak, stop what you’re doing, clear your mind, listen deeply, and remember what they say. In time, you will remember some of their wise words, which are likely to steer you to fruitful and healthful destinations. Such wisdom can enhance our individual and collective well-being.” (Psychology Today, June2020) Indeed!
