We’ve all been hearing about it…the loneliness epidemic.
“The US Surgeon General’s report is sounding an alarm: Americans are more lonely and socially disconnected than ever, and it’s a serious threat to their physical and mental health that demands urgent policy action.” (www.vox.com) Numerous articles cite factors that are behind the rise in loneliness. They include the lingering effects of the pandemic, an increase in technology use, lack of community involvement, and decline in personal participation in social interactions.
Connecting with others is a simple but powerful means of caring for ourselves, improving our physical and mental health, lowering our risk of dementia, and living longer. It’s simple. Social connections matter and that is why here at HELPERS we strive to offer our area seniors many opportunities for social interaction. We hope to see you at any and all of our upcoming events!
As always, if transportation is a problem for you just give us a call, in advance, and we’ll get you there. “Social connection is such a basic feature of human experience that when we are deprived of it, we suffer.” ~Leonard Mlodinow
